‘Walk & Roll’ race to raise funds for new Alpharetta police K-9 officer

The Alpharetta Department of Public Safety needs a new dog.

But not just any pup. It needs a new K-9 officer, to help protect the city’s residents and to sniff out the bad guys and drugs.

And you can help the department get a new officer by participating in the inaugural “Walk & Roll for Rescue,” a 3K race at Wills Park. The walk will be held at Waggy World Paw Park at 175 Roswell St., behind the Alpharetta community center.

Proceeds from the race will help the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety purchase a new K-9 officer from the “Throw Away Dogs Project,” a charity that rescues shelter dogs, rehabilitates them and trains them for police, military or assistance work.

The charity will have a booth set up at the event to display some of the dogs in its training program. The Alpharetta Police K-9 Unit will also be at the event.

The race will be on Oct. 14 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Registration ranges from $5 to $17, depending on if you’ll be racing with your pet or not. Visit Eventbrite to register.
