A Homeschool Information Seminar will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the Aiken County Public Library, 314 Chesterfield St. S.W. This is a learning and networking opportunity for new and current homeschool families. For more information, call Carol at 803-643-1952.

National Night Out will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the Clearwater Village Apartments, 5016 Westminster Way, Beech Island. The event will feature food, fun, prizes and more. This unique crime, drug and abuse awareness event is held nationally every year to strengthen neighborhood and community partnerships. The Aiken County Sheriff’s Department will also be on hand with a dog, command truck and fire truck. For more information, call 803-593-3983.

The Crosland Park Neighborhood Association will host a Government to Your Neighborhood meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, at the Community Resource Center, 1248 Crosland Drive N.E. Scheduled speakers will be Aiken Mayor Rick Osbon, Aiken City Councilwoman Gail Diggs, Public Safety Chief Charles Barranco, Aiken County Council Chairman Gary Bunker, County Councilman Willar Hightower, Aiken County Sheriff Michael Hunt and Aiken County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Sean Alford. An evening meal of barbecue, cole slaw, potato salad and baked beans will be served. A question and answer session will follow. Seating is limited and early arrival is recommended. Questions may be submitted in advance to cpna@atlanticbb.net. The deadline to submit questions is Tuesday, Aug. 7.

WEDNESDAY

An Origami Program will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at the Aiken County Public Library, 314 Chesterfield St. S.W. This program is open to all ages. For more information, call 803-642-2020 x.1311 or stop by the reference desk.

STAR puppy classes will be offered at 11:15 a.m. beginning Wednesday, Aug. 8, at the H. Odell Weeks Activities Center, 1700 Whiskey Road. The class will meet on Wednesdays for six weeks. Puppies will learn commands and those who qualify will be eligible for the AKC STAR award at the end of the course. Puppies must be between 10 to 20 weeks old and have two sets of shots. Pre-registration is required, and enrollment must be completed prior to the first class. For more information, call 803-642-7631.

Basic Dog Training classes will be held at 10 a.m. beginning Wednesday, Aug. 8, at the H. Odell Weeks Activities Center, 1700 Whiskey Road. The class will meet on Wednesdays for six weeks. Dogs will learn basic commands including come, sit, down, stay, wait, stand, etc., and topics will include basic dog care and what to expect from training. Dogs must be five months and older, have a current rabies vaccination and be registered with the city if the owner lives within the city limits.
