Saying No, What Would Jeff Do? Dog Training Tip of the Day #147

– Hey everybody, Jeff Gellman at Solid K9 Training with my What Would Jeff Do? Dog Training Tip of the Day Tip number 147, does your dog understand what no means? And what I mean by that, we do specific exercises for if a dog says it, you tell it to down, it downs, and then maybe a couple of minutes later, it gets out of the down and even goes to a sit and then you say no, does it know to go back into a down? And at the beginning, what you're doing is, you're absolutely probably giving some leash guidance, you might have to, you might use the food lure at the very beginning stages, but it's really important that your dog will understand what no means when it comes to obedience, that it means that what you just did was incorrect, go back to what you were doing, whether that's place, whether that's down, whether that's sit, it's really, really important

A lot of times when you say not to a dog, it's confused A lot of times sometimes they'll run over So for instance, this dog right here, that's what I'm working on right now, if the dog happens to sit up because there's some environmental going on right there I'll say nein, German with this dog It doesn't make a difference what the word is, by the way, guys and then now it goes oops, mistake

That's what's really, really important, so let's make sure that your dog understands because the downfall is sometimes what this dog would do at the very beginning of the sequence of his training, the dog would come running over to us, which is not the worst thing in the world but that's not what we want We want the dog to understand no means go back to what you were doing, obviously, I wouldn't be standing here at the beginning saying it, I would be closer to the dog, giving leash guidance So make sure your dogs understand, obviously, what the command is, understands duration, if the dog breaks command, it can be as simple as going from a down to a sit You say no at the beginning, make sure you give the dog guidance, no doesn't just mean automatically go back, you've gotta explain to the dog what it means Really, really important that our dogs understand the meaning of yes, meaning of no, the meaning of break

A little tip of the day for you Jeff Gellman, Solid K9 Training Just want to let everybody know I'm proud of you and also, you're not alone Your struggle is shared by millions of people and you starting to kick some ass and make progress is not as many people though A lot of folks are accepting the ways their dog is

I want you to know, your dog can do better You could do better I could do better, we all can do better Stick to it, madly in love with you I'll talk to you soon

Love you, bye
