STOLEN CAR, CHILDREN: A man who stole a car with two children inside has not been found, Battle Creek police said Tuesday. The car and the children were found unharmed about a block from the gas station where the incident occurred. Officers were called to the Citgo station at 424 Capital Ave. N.E. at 12:42 p.m. Monday after the woman, 27, said she stopped her car at the gas pumps and then went inside the station. A witness said a man then got into the car but the witness thought it was his car until the woman ran from the station yelling for the man to stop. The car went about a block on South Wabash Street when it stopped and the man fled on foot. Two children inside, boys, 8 and 3, were inside and not injured. Police said the older boy said the man got in, turned to them and said ‘Hey.’ The older boy said he had a phone and was about to call 911 when the man stopped the car and fled. Police said they saw the man run into a house on Cherry Street but then ran out the back door and began jumping fences, including into a yard with a big dog. Police pursued the man and followed him to a garage after a neighbor reported he went inside. The man was not there and police said they have not found him.
CAR THEFT: A Marshall man, 24, was arrested Tuesday after Calhoun County Sheriff Department deputies said a car was stolen in Marshall about 7:30 a.m. Officers followed a signal from the car and found it abandoned at 15-Mile Road and B Drive South in Fredonia Township. Using a police dog they followed a scent to a home in the 11000 block of 15-Mile Road and after obtaining a search warrant entered and found several items stolen in Marshall along with the man. He was arrested on charges of auto theft, possession of stolen property, being a felon in possession of firearms and narcotics violations.
