my dog is sad, What Would Jeff Do? Dog Training Tip of the Day #120

– Hey everybody, how are you? It's Jeff Gellman of Solid K9 Training with What Would Jeff Do?, dog training tip leading with tip number 120 Let's talk about a couple things here, well one thing in particular, your dog's energy

So many folks out there are struggling with their dogs They're out on a leash, they're pulling, lunging, barking, marking, dragging them down the street, being leash reactive Finally, they get them under control Which happens with a lot of our fans, with a lot of our video viewers, with our clients But, then your dog is walking calmly next to you, sometimes your dog is walking a little bit behind you, your dog seems to be bored and then that bothers you

So now the conversation is, 'my dog was dragging me down the street 'and I hate it' Now the conversation is, 'I don't think my dog likes my walks anymore 'they seem so bored' This is the thing, being a pet dog trainer, we don't teach competition heel, so we're not teaching this focused heel, we're not teaching this prancing heel That's not what we do, that's amazing, I've got no problem with that, but that's not our category of dog training We're family pet dog trainers

We teach dogs how to walk next to you calmly, ignoring environmentals We stop all those bad behaviors that you were trying for months or years to stop So, what happens a lot of times, is now you finally have it, but now you're flipping and saying, 'Doesn't look like my dog likes to walk' Well, rather your dog likes the walks or not, they do They're walking with you

That's not the point The point is, your dog loved, lunging, pulling right? Being reactive, barking, possibly biting, chasing, your dog loved doing all those things Why you're in the transition, don't worry as much about what the dog likes, it's like, 'Oh my gosh, my walks are great now' Be careful about the humanization of it, it happens a lot It'll keep you from being the best you can for your dog
