Iowa County woman accused of debarking dogs

IOWA COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) — An Iowa woman is in jail accused of using a crude method to stop dogs from being able to bark.

Pennsylvania law enforcement say Denise Felling debarked multiple dogs earlier this year and faces three counts of animal cruelty. She’s in the Iowa County jail and will likely be transferred to Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals rescued up to 15 dogs that Felling is identified as de-barking. Devocalization of dogs is illegal in Pennsylvania unless a licensed veterinarian performs it using anesthesia. Felling lost her license while still in Iowa and was using a method that involved a rod and no anesthesia.

Anyone that may have been a victim of Felling’s should call the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office.
