VERO BEACH â Like most of you, I love spending time with my dogs.
I make it a point to do things they enjoy.
I do some training every day, but I include in in our daily activities.
Recently, the dogs and I had a great walk. Iâd been looking forward to it for days.
This location features an off-leash option that Sally especially enjoys. It was the first time I let Odie off-leash too. The dogs had a blast. Running, sniffing, chasing stuff, all great canine fun.
It is nice that we all enjoy walks on the wild side together.
We practiced our recalls on the walk. I find this real-life practice invaluable in nurturing the bond we have with each other. I give the dogs freedom to run in return for coming to me when I call them. You canât practice this too much.
We also practice leash manners and stay in the car until I give you permission to get out.
If you look at your time with your dog as an opportunity rather than an obligation, the fun component dramatically increases.
There are so many activities for dogs and people, from a simple walk to hikes in parks.
There are a multitude of dog sports that many teams enjoy, agility, scent training, obedience.
Even doing pet therapy is fun for the right dog and handler teams.
If formal events donât appeal to you, you can find ways to engage in a meaningful way during normal events. Like training on walks or working on down stays while cooking or practicing leave it when you are working on a project.
