Hilary Lister sailed into the record books on August 23, 2005, when she successfully crossed the Channel alone; four years later she completed the journey around the coastline of Britain. Yet what made these achievements even more remarkable was that Lister, a quadriplegic whose degenerative condition had put her in a wheelchair from the age of 15, piloted her yacht by blowing and sucking on two plastic straws.
