COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) –

A Columbus veteran received a free service dog to assist with trauma recovery.

K9 For Warriors provided Health Vail with the service dog after he completed the three-week Florida-based service dog training program. Vail was matched with his dog, Mako, after a lengthy application process and making it through an 18-month waiting list.

“You get what you put into the program,” said Heath Vail, K9s For Warriors graduate. “K9s is not only man’s best friend, it is also man’s best therapy.”

Vail and Mako graduated along with five other warrior-dog teams from across the nation.
