Dogs will go mutts over the newest business in Pensacola — Camp Bow Wow. Located at 2410 Langley Ave. in Pensacola, Camp Bow Wow is a new boarding and training facility for your four-legged friends.
Owners Cindy and Mike Milner knew that Pensacola would be the perfect place for their new business.
“We’re both natives of Pensacola,” Cindy Milner said. “We had left the area and we knew we wanted to get back here as quick as we can. So we started investigating ways to make that happen.”
And that’s when they stumbled upon Camp Bow Wow.
“My daughter got a job with a Camp Bow Wow in Texas,” Milner said. “She loved her job and working with the dogs. We were so impressed with the Camp Bow Wow concept that we thought this might be a great fit.”
The entire franchising process took two years, but Camp Bow Wow Pensacola recently quietly opened its doors.
“My husband and I are so excited to serve the pups and pet parents of Pensacola,” Milner said. “We will be hosting an official grand opening celebration in October.”
More business stories:
Camp Bow Wow Pensacola is not your average boarding and training facility. With more than 8,600 square feet, it includes 87 spacious cabins, eight teacup cabins, six luxury suites, four outdoor play areas, dog pools, outdoor play equipment and a climate controlled atmosphere, fire safety sprinklers and more.
“It’s a very different business model,” Milner said. “We do all-day play, but our pups are grouped by size. All of the small dogs are together, all of the big dogs together. Safety is our first concern, and they’re always with a camp counselor.”
Because safety is a big priority for Camp Bow Wow, all of their camp counselors are CPR and first-aid certified. In addition to the certifications, every dog must complete a thorough interviewing process in order to be brought into the fold.
“Because our dogs participate in group play, a temperament test is very important,” Milner said. “We don’t exclude breeds because of this temperament test. We let them sniff around, then very slowly, be introduced to the dogs, one dog at a time.”
This interviewing process is not only to vet potentially aggressive dogs, but also to see if a dog is nervous or anxious.
“If they’re so nervous, so anxious, the camper can’t fully participate in the activities,” Milner said. “We want every camper to have the best experience possible.”
Camp Bow Wow is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. For more information, visit campbowwow.com/pensacola or call 850-764-3886.
